How Many Days in Copenhagen?

How Many Days in Copenhagen?

Copenhagen First Impression

Denmark sets the European standards high. The city of Copenhagen Denmark is so vibrant. Copenhagen was not cheap but it also wasn’t overly expensive. Colors are everywhere and the set up of the city makes it easy to navigate. The weather in Copenhagen can be a bit unpredictable so keep an eye on the weather as you get close to arrival. This can help you decide on how many days in Copenhagen will be needed.

Joshua’s Top 5 Copenhagen Activities

1) Nyhavn

Nyhavn is at the top of the list for obvious reasons. It’s one of the most photographed locations in the world. The buildings are mesmerizing with their colors and it makes for one of the best photograph backgrounds around the globe. Nyhavn is known as the waterfront entertainment district. There are tons of shops and restaurants but one unique thing I found was the abundance of ice-cream shops. I happen to make my way down to a very yummy ice cream shop called Nicecream Ice-cream. It was delicious and totally worth a stop. Check out the link I added if you want to know more about this delicious ice-cream.

2) The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid statue is a very well-known tourist attraction in Copenhagen. Yes, you should go see it because you are in Copenhagen, but I do not encourage you to go see it to amaze you but rather to make you laugh. The statue is so tiny. The pictures make it seem like it is going to be this incredible and dramatically sculpted statue. It is not, it is a bronze statue that is 1.25 meters / 4.1ft. That is all, it is overly packed with tourists that have no regard or care about you wanting or waiting to take a picture. In reality, most people will probably go and just be annoyed rather than even care about seeing this overrated tourist attraction. If you want to see an incredible mermaid statue check out #5 below.

3) Freetown Christiania

Freetown Christiania was a really cool stop because I totally did not even think something like that could exist inside of such a prominent city like Copenhagen. When you walk around Copenhagen everything seems so proper and well put together that the idea of an international commune that makes its own rules seems a bit farfetched. Freetown Christiania is just that, it is an international community of people that have made their own way of life. It’s kind of hard to explain but it all starts and ends with an archway.

Once you have entered Freetown cell phones are not allowed and they encourage you to just go with the flow and stop being a normal tourist and enjoy the moment. You can buy hemp, shrooms, and some other stuff if that is your scene. There are no cops and from what I saw and heard the cops stay away unless chaos breaks out. It really is there own community of people. It is said that around 1,000 people live on the 7.7 hectares / 19 acres but who really knows how many reside. Freetown Christiania is worth a stop because it will surely bring a unique experience to your Copenhagen travels.

4) The Royal Library

The Royal Library made the top 5 because it is quite an impressive library. It is the largest Nordic library and among one of the largest libraries in the entire world. It is massive and shiny and is positioned on the water which makes it all the more stunning. The Royal Library is also a museum in a way. They have books that date back to 1482. That is incredible, books that are over 500+ years old! Now, obviously you can’t check those books out, but it was just cool to find that out while I was there. The library can also make for a great place to take a break and relax after exploring the city all day.

5) The Genetically Modified Little Mermaid

This was one of the coolest statues I have ever seen. It was cool because of its obscurity. When looking up sites to see in Copenhagen the first one you see in “The Little Mermaid,” but this statue does not even make the list and that is ridiculous. The Little Mermaid statue which I mentioned above gets hundreds of tourists a day, but this statue cannot even make TripAdvisor’s top sites to see a list. The Genetically Modified Little Mermaid is a must-see when in Copenhagen. You can walk from the other Little Mermaid statue to the genetically modified statue in under 15 mins. By the way, good luck getting a picture at the original Little Mermaid statue without people in the background, but at the Genetically Modified Little Mermaid, I ate a sandwich while taking my pictures.
