What to do in Zagreb the Capital City of Croatia
The Welcoming Capital City of Croatia
🗺️ What to do in Zagreb the Capital City of Croatia
First Impression of Zagreb Croatia
What to do in Zagreb? Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia, but it really did not feel as big and hectic as some capital cities generally make us feel. The capital city of Croatia is not overly small or anything but the way the city is set up allows for easy navigation in and around the city. Public transportation was easy to use as well. The nightlife was not overly chaotic though, I found a few bars to meet some locals but as a whole, I would say Zagreb is not the party center of Croatia and that title might stick with Split, Croatia.
Joshua’s Top 5 Zagreb Activities
1) Cathedral of Zagreb
The Cathedral of Zagreb is a centerpiece to the capital city of Croatia. It can be seen from kilometers away and up close it was quite beautiful. The beautiful cathedral is also the tallest building in all of Croatia. The cathedral is located on round-a-bout so there is plenty of area for great pictures.
2) St. Mark’s Church
St. Mark’s church might have the coolest roof of any church I have ever seen. The roof is made of colored tiles that form the “Coat of Arms of the City of Zagreb.” It is such a unique roof and all you need to do is take the funicular up to the Lotrscak Tower and you can walk over and check it out.
3) World Smallest Funicular
Yes, you heard correctly. The world’s smallest public transportation funicular. I had to research this to verify and multiple places did agree with this being true. This funicular was cool to see in person but also made me feel lazy. Hints, why I could not take it up and had to take the stairs. This funicular literally climbs 66 meters / 217ft. Watching people pay to go up 217ft was rather amusing as I drank my coffee right next door. There were tables set up outside where you could people watch. Definitely worth checking out but paying 2-3$ to go up a few stories seemed like a waste to me, so I spent it on coffee instead.
4) Lotrscak Tower
The Lotrscak Tower really is not anything special but it is a great lookout spot to see the city from a top-down angle. Also, if you are going to see any of the other sites it will be in your direct path. The funicular goes up to the Lotrscak Tower. If you like overlooking city pictures this tower will allow for the angle you need.
5) Museum of Broken Relationships
Perhaps my favorite museum of all time. This museum was not only unique to Zagreb but also had me laughing the entire time. 😆 It is an entire museum dedicated to failed love relationships. There are items that were left over after relationships had broken up and descriptions of why the item was left behind. High heels, journals, jackets, pictures, and more were all left behind and stories about why that particular item was so import and left. If you have time this is a must-see just because there will be at least one item, you can connect with that will have you laughing the rest of the day. Smiles are free and we should have as many as we can a day. 😀
Zagreb Croatia Wrap Up
Zagreb was not on the list of cities to see but I am happy I did. The capital city of Croatia offers many unique sites that you can only find there. It is also a very cheap airport to fly into. I was able to get tickets there much cheaper than other airports throughout Croatia. Also, Zagreb has a great bus terminal. I took a bus from Zagreb to Split Croatia in about 4-5 hours. Zagreb bus station has buses leaving in and out in all directions throughout the day. So, the next time some asked you, what to do in Zagreb? You have the answer. 😀
