Not All Australian Animals Will Kill You

Not all Australian animals will kill you, but many can. Where do I even start? While in Australia I interacted with so many amazing Australian animals. However, I also tried to avoid a couple as well. 😆  Some of the animals were adorable and I wanted to cuddle with them and others I didn’t want to come within a few feet of. Let us take a look at the list of animals I hung out with and a few that neither of us wants to encounter.

🦘Australian Animal Encounters🦘

Kangaroos

Kangaroos are everywhere and you can go to multiple places to interact with them. I was actually a bit shocked by how muscular some of the kangaroos were. Often on television kangaroos are thought to be cute, small, and fragile but I assure you, they are not. They can be massive and are extremely strong.

Turtles

Turtles are everywhere as well, especially in the ocean surrounding Australia. They will swim right up to you to have a chat. 😆 They are very picturesque and an amazing animal. Make sure you try to find time to see them in their natural habitat in the ocean but be careful not to disturb them because I have heard some stories about them getting a little territorial.

Tazmanian Devil

This is an animal I had to see but I will say that the cartoon does not do a great job in depicting what they actually look like. However, they are extremely fast and they ran all over their enclosure. I don’t know how likely it is for you to see them in the wild so if in Australia be sure to check out the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Many of my pictures were taken there and the volunteers were very informative and did a great job providing for the animals.

Fish (by the hundreds)

This one doesn’t really need to be explained. 😆 While scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef up in Cairns Australia I’m sure you will see tons. Often, I get the question, is the Great Barrier Reed still worth seeing? Absolutely, It may not be what it once was but it is a part of history and scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef is still very worthwhile.

Crocodiles

This was one of the most incredible animal experiences I have had thus far while traveling the world. Getting to feed a live crocodile and watching it’s massive body jump out of the water to eat was phenomenal. This picture below is truly worth a 1,000 words.

Koala

So many of us had a cute and cuddly stuffed animal when growing up and often they were koalas. I can now confirm that their fur is super soft and they are super cuddly and sweet. They do spend a lot of time just laying in the trees though. Sloth versus koala for the laziest animal may be close. 😆

Echidnas

This little guy was absolutely adorable and had such a long tongue. You can see in the picture that he would just stick it out and wiggle it around. They look like spinny anteaters and they actually lay eggs. Very cool animal encounter.

Emu

You cannot forget about the emu. The emu is a very interesting bird. They can run up to 50km an hour. That is as fast as some highways speed limits in Australia. Also, and emu can leap up to 275 centimeters which is equivalent to 9 feet. Basically, the emu is a gangster bird that you do not want to mess with. 😎

Two Deadly Australian Animals You Wouldn’t Expect

There are many creatures that come to mind when thinking about scary animals in Australia. I would first think of sharks, crocodiles, snakes, and spiders. However, I found out that there are way more animals that you should be scared of in Australia. These two below I choose because I would have never expected either of them to be deadly animals especially #2.

Blue-Ringed Octopus

Octopuses are often overlooked when thinking about killer creatures in the water. Perhaps it is because of their ninja-like style of attack. Creatures with tentacles are scary enough and this Blue-Ringed Octopus is no exception. The Blue-Ringed Octopus well bite you and the bite is rather painless. However, 5 minutes later you may start experiencing paresthesias, numbness, muscular weakness, difficulty breathing, and swallowing. There is no cure and you just have to sit there and wait it out. Talk about a ninja.

Textile Cone Snail

This one was the one that really caught me off guard. Did you say a snail? Seriously, a snail? You won’t be saying that after you encounter the Textile Cone Snail. Wait until you hear how they attack, these words are from a magazine that described its attacking methods. The Textil Cone Snail will take their harpoon-like tooth and inject the venom into its prey. 😮 Their microscopic harpoons can not only penetrate human skin but also wetsuits. Each of these little snails has enough venom to take out 60 people. I think its safe to say that we should stay clear of these water snails.

Australian Animals Wrap Up

There are so many more animals to discuss but these are the particular animals that I got to meet and interact with. Some animals in Australian are adorable while others can take you out without hesitation. Perhaps, that is why they call Australia “The Most Dangerous Country in the World to Visit,” when it comes to animals. I had to throw in that last part. So remember, not all Australian animals will kill you, but many could if they wanted to.:lol:
