Some of you may have already realized the importance of having travel insurance because you have heard stories from a friend, family member, or another traveler. My Crutches Speak Louder Than Words

If you don’t protect yourself and have a mishap while traveling your trip can quickly turn into a nightmare. I learned this the hard way during my trip to Indonesia. I had been traveling for years without travel insurance and thought it was an expense that could be avoided. This all changed when I slipped off a 40ft / 12m cliff just outside of Depensar Indonesia. As I was falling to the meter of water below travel insurance was the last thing on my mind. However, an hour later it was the only thing on my mind.

I was very fortunate not to break anything. When a reminisce on the fall I still can’t believe nothing broke and was so very fortunate. The next day I was getting on a flight to Australia and again I was fortunate to be meeting some awesome friends that helped me for the next few weeks. without travel insurance, the prices to go to the hospital were just too much. I was forced to try and make do. I dealt with the pain and after 8 weeks was back to around 90-95%. Nonetheless, this was a completely ridiculous situation and I should have had travel insurance.

If you don’t have travel insurance you could find yourself in a similar situation. Spend the 100$ and avoid putting yourself in a foolish situation like me. I have heard stories of many travelers that have gotten hurt on their first day abroad and because they didn’t have travel insurance they had to return home.
