Romantic Mostar Bosnia & “Stari Most” Mostar Bridge

     Mostar, Bosnia is a quaint, relatively small, amazing city right over the Croatian/Bosnian border. You can take a 4-hour bus ride from Split, Croatia in the morning, and arrive by lunchtime. I chose Mostar Bosnia as my stop after Croatia due to only its geographical location. This was one of those random choices I’m so happy I made. 😀 Mostar is absolutely stunning. The vintage buildings, brick roads, Stari Most Mostar bridge, and welcoming locals were only the start. 

Stari Most Mostar Bridge

     This city has so much to offer from the legendary bridge, Stari Most. Year around men will gather to jump off the bridge for tips. Twenty dollars seem to be the going rate. They would wait until they accumulated that much before jumping. Stari Most bridge stands at approx 80ft / 24m above the river. The yearly Red Bull diving competition is all also held in Stari Most. I missed it by a week last year but I heard it was spectacular. 

     The Stari Most bridge had a very distinct humpback design which makes it an ideal spot for diving. Diving from the Stari Most bridge is said to have been an old-timey coming of age tradition. This was very cool to see in person but also a bit unsettling. When I showed up to the hostel I was staying the first thing the host mentioned was to not jump off the bridge.  😆 However, she then mention if we did we could sign the official bridge book and have a picture taken. Talk about mixed signals. 😆 Also, there are smaller platforms along the river where you can try to gain confidence before trying the Stari Most adrenaline experience.

     Next on the list to see in Stari Most was the Kravice waterfalls. Kravice Falls is becoming incredibly popular with tourists and is already a local favorite hang out spot. During the summer months upwards of 200,000 tourists and 50,000 locals visit this popular tourist spot in Bosnia. More and more tourists come each and every year as Mostar Bosnia is finally getting the tourist recognition it deserves.

     The center area of Mostar is extremely diverse. On the eastside of the bazaar marketplace are the Asian theme shops and on the westside are the Arabic shops everywhere selling lamps, vases, blankets, and more. This is what makes Mostar Bosnia such an amazing place. The city is so diverse but also so accepting.

     I saved the best tourist attraction for last. After jumping off bridges and drinking beers at waterfalls there was only one place left to go. It was time to see the magnificent, amazing, phenomenal golden statue of Bruce Lee. 😆 Yes, you heard that right, there is a life-size golden statue of Bruce Lee in one of the town’s central parks.
