The Entrance to Bolivia

Copacabana Bolivia and I have a love/hate relationship. Actually, I don’t really love it at all but I’ve been several times. When using a bus line like Peru Hop & Bolivia Hop this small city is a bus stop for nearly all of them. This bus stop will come before or after you take a ferry to cross Lake Titicaca. You’ll have a few hours to explore the town and you can even stay overnight if you’d like. There are hostels and hotels that are very cheap. However, I have not spoken to a single person yet that says that more than one night is needed.

Copacabana Bolivia is the main tourist town on the shore of Lake Titicaca. The pride and joy tour attraction is to take a 2-hour ferry, the slowest ferry ever, across to tour the famous Inca Island called Isla del Sol. I assure you that if you don’t have time to make this you will be okay. After a two hour ferry, we arrived at the ruins that looked like an old collapsed barn. They make no effort to even make it seem like a tourist attraction. There weren’t even signs to get to it. Once the ferry stops the ferry captain just points to go up. Many backpackers got lost until we all just started following each other. If we were going to be lost we might as well be together. 

The Journey Continues…

After another hour or so hiking along a dirt path with no signs we eventually saw something that resembled a town. The ferries were docked there to pick us up and start the 2-hour journey back. There is absolutely no direction during the tour and still today, I have no idea what that tour was about. On the bright side, I got to play with some alpacas and had a little girl tried and hustle me to take pictures with her personal alpaca. This is a bus stop regardless of which direction you are going. You will be stuck here for around 4-5 hours so if you don’t mind dropping 20$ then you can have this adventure as well. 😎

P.S. Bolivia is the toughest border I’ve crossed in South America, If you need a visa then you better have all your forms filled out perfectly, and more importantly, you need to have your money crisp, no rips, and no markings. They will deny you entry without hesitation.
